Leather Craft Reimagined · Tribute to 130 Years | Results Announced for the Heritage & Cultural Continuity Category of the Sichuan University “Hoffen Cup” Global Alumni Genuine Leather Product Design Competition

130 Years of Sichuan University, A New Chapter in Leather Craftsmanship.
On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Sichuan University, a spark of creativity ignited by alumnus Chen Zhijun’s donation of genuine leather seating quickly grew into a wave of enthusiasm among Sichuan University alumni worldwide, all paying tribute to their alma mater through design. Since the official launch of the competition in October 2025, the organizing committee has received nearly one hundred valid submissions from alumni and current students across China and around the world within just a few months. The entries covered a wide range of categories, including cultural and creative products, artistic installations, and more. From Wangjiang Tower to the Jiang’an River, from the laboratories of the Leather Engineering Department to the prototyping workshops of alumni enterprises, every design sketch and every physical model reflected the Sichuan University community’s deep exploration of genuine leather materials and their unique understanding of the university’s cultural heritage. Following two stages — submission collection and professional evaluation — the competition successfully concluded on May 14, 2026.

Here, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to every participant who holds deep affection for their alma mater. With craftsmanship and creativity, you honored tradition through design and breathed new life into the ancient material of genuine leather within the cultural heritage of Sichuan University.

Review of the Judging Process:

The competition specially invited experts from the Sichuan University Alumni Association, the College of Biomass Science and Engineering of Sichuan University, the Sichuan University Library, the China Leather Industry Association, the Sichuan University Leather Alumni Association, the Sichuan University Education Foundation, and Xuzhou Hoffen Polymer Materials Co., Ltd. to form the judging committee.

Based on criteria including innovation, professionalism, aesthetic and cultural value, market potential, and sustainability, the committee conducted a rigorous evaluation of the shortlisted works in the “Heritage & Cultural Continuity” category. All submitted works underwent originality verification to ensure fairness and impartiality.

The public announcement period runs from May 18, 2026 to May 22, 2026, totaling five working days. If there are any objections to the results, please submit an appeal during the announcement period via email to 979268110@qq.com.
