The “Hoffen Polymer Cup” — The 9th Jiaxing University Undergraduate Leather Processing Skills Competition Successfully Held by the Light Chemical Engineering Program of Jiaxing University

From December 9 to 13, the “Hoffen Polymer Cup” 9th Jiaxing University Undergraduate Leather Processing Skills Competition was held at the Intelligent Laboratory of the Light Chemical Engineering Program at Jiaxing University.

Professor Luo Jianxun, head of the Light Chemical Engineering program, along with several core faculty members, participated in and provided guidance. All students from Light Chemical Engineering Class 231 and some students from the 2024 cohort took part in the competition.

The competition consisted of a theoretical examination and a practical operation assessment. The theoretical examination covered leather finishing technology knowledge, problem analysis, and process design.

The practical competition topics were set by Xuzhou Hoffen Polymer Materials Co., Ltd. based on market demand. Students completed the tasks, and the practical works were evaluated by a judging panel comprising Zhao Ziling, General Manager of Haining Fennis Technology Co., Ltd.; Yang Feng, Senior Manager of Mingxin Xuteng New Materials Co., Ltd.; Wang Shai, General Manager of Jinlin New Materials Co., Ltd.; Xing Fangfang, Engineer of Xuzhou Hoffen Polymer Materials Co., Ltd.; Chen Lin, Engineer; and Kang Yong, Manager.

After intense competition and a rigorous, fair, and impartial evaluation process, the teams led by Wang Lingxiang and Wu Chuping each won first prize. The teams led by Shu Jiashan and Zhang Hengyuan received second prize, while the teams led by Li Shanshan, Qu Xuewei, Li Dan, Shi Yue, and Wang Shiyou were awarded third prize.

The judges and Professor Luo Jianxun spoke highly of the students’ performance, noting their strong practical capabilities. They commented that the students’ excellent process designs and implementation results met market requirements, and encouraged the participants to use the competition as an opportunity to further strengthen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills, continuously improve their professional competence, contribute to the industry, and realize their own value.

The competition further enhanced students’ comprehensive abilities in problem analysis, practical application, and innovation, improved their overall competence, and effectively stimulated their initiative. It successfully achieved the objectives of “promoting learning through competition, promoting teaching through competition, and promoting improvement through competition.”
