Bentley pursues the pinnacle of leather craftsmanship through groundbreaking AI technology

Bentley Motors has announced the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) leather inspection technology to elevate interior craftsmanship, reduce waste, and reinforce sustainability. This groundbreaking move represents a key pillar of the brand’s "Beyond100+" strategy. The system automatically detects even the slightest imperfections, partially replacing manual inspection processes and significantly boosting the efficiency and quality of leather selection.
Bentley’s SUV model, the Bentayga, requires approximately nine hides for its interior. As natural leather often contains defects such as insect bites, the AI system ensures every piece meets the brand’s rigorous standards. It supports simultaneous inspection of multiple hides and works in tandem with cutting processes to optimize leather usage across more than 200 interior components. As a result, each vehicle is expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 135.7 kilograms.
While automation increases efficiency, traditional craftsmen continue to play a vital role in the meticulous stitching stages that follow. This system also marks one of the first applications of such advanced manufacturing technology within the Volkswagen Group. Bentley’s Head of Manufacturing emphasized that the integration of this technology reflects a harmony between innovation and craftsmanship, laying the foundation for the future of ultra-luxury electric vehicles.
