Recently, the leather manufacturing giant Scottish Leather Group (SLG) announced the acquisition of Aerotech Systems Limited, a Manchester-based company in the United Kingdom. The move is aimed at strengthening SLG’s strategic position in the aircraft interiors market and enhancing its integrated capabilities in certification, design, and production.
SLG owns well-known leather brands including Muirhead, Bridge of Weir, and Lang. Among them, Muirhead has long specialized in supplying high-performance leather products to the global aviation industry and other mass transport sectors.
Through this acquisition, SLG will integrate Aerotech’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part 21G Production Organisation Approval into its operations. Combined with its existing strengths in design, engineering, and manufacturing, SLG aims to build a more efficient end-to-end cabin interior solutions system for the aviation sector.
According to filings with the UK Companies House, three senior SLG executives have been appointed as directors of Aerotech, while the company’s founder, Graham Whiteman, has resigned.
The aviation industry has long been characterized by strict certification requirements, tight delivery schedules, and complex supply chains. SLG stated that by internalizing Aerotech’s CAA Part 21G certification, the group will be able to deliver fully certified cabin interior components more efficiently, significantly shorten lead times, and simplify cooperation with airlines and OEMs.
Stephen Ritchie, Sales Director of Muirhead Aviation, noted that the acquisition marks a key milestone in the group’s development, enabling the company to directly certify and deliver compliant aviation interior components, providing customers with greater assurance, flexibility, and faster turnaround times.
Currently, SLG’s aviation product portfolio includes Bio PRO, high-performance aviation leather interiors, and customized seat covers, all supported by internal certification capabilities, forming a single integrated seating solution.
SLG added that this integration model will help partners better adapt to evolving compliance requirements in the aviation sector, while improving overall cabin interior consistency and reducing project complexity.
